The greatest words a business owner can learn are, “How may I serve you?” It’s a well known fact that the more people you serve, the more money you will make. Think about it for a minute! How many restaurant establishments are there in your city? Hundreds? Maybe even thousands, depending on what city you live in? I think it’s safe to say that most of these places have pretty good food, but you only patronize certain ones. Why? Normally, it’s because of how well they treat you!
In my city of Cincinnati, there is a certain restaurant where I eat once a week. Often it’s crowded, so I have to wait 20 to 25 minutes for a table. Now, to some people that’s a long wait, but I don’t mind because of how they treat me during the wait. The hostess always comes over to ask me how I’m doing and if I would like a drink. I normally respond, “I sure do!” She tries her best to make me feel appreciated.
One week, a friend and I decided to try a new restaurant closer to where I live. The place was crowded, so we had to wait 20 minutes before being seated. Although the food was great, I never went back there again! Why, you ask? The service was terrible! During our wait, no one served us by asking how we were doing or if we wanted something to drink. Instead, all we got was, “There is a 20 minute wait,” from a hostess who seemed to be bothered by our presence.
If you have an online business, you must make it your mission to be like the first restaurant in the story. Serve your guests! The people who visit your website, blog, or fan page are your guests. So, always serve them with value and great content. If you want your business to thrive, remember to begin with this important question: HOW MAY I SERVE YOU?
