Tell-A-Vision

According to www.statista.com, there are approximately 122.4 million TV homes in the United States and over 5 billion worldwide. What do these numbers mean? A whole lot of people all over the world consume television every single day! In fact, in the U.S., the average adult watches four hours of television on a daily basis. So, what do TV viewers tune in every day to see? Surveys show that the most popular TV programs are comedies and dramas, followed by action/adventure, crime-drama and suspense/thriller.

Why do people spend so much of their time glued to the tube? Television or TV (as many of us like to call it) does just what it says—it TELLS-A-VISION. And viewers enjoy the vision they are presented with because it allows them to escape! A good friend of mine admits that she enjoys watching TV in the evening. After a long day at work, paying bills and raising hard-headed children, she needs a means of escape, even if it’s only for an hour.

Maybe you are one of those avid TV viewers. If so, is it also your means of escape? I completely understand the need to escape. However, you want to make sure you’re not becoming so focused on escaping into another world that you check out of this world. You don’t want to become so hooked on your favorite TV show that you miss the opportunities right at your fingertips. When you’re watching television, understand that it’s NOT your vision it tells. Unless your name is Tyler Perry or Oprah Winfrey, when you watch television you don’t see YOUR vision. Instead, you see THEIRS. And when you focus more on watching someone else’s vision, you run the risk of not seeing your own. In fact, those who don’t have a vision, find it easier to latch onto someone else’s. However, you need to have your own vision. You need to have a vision of who YOU are and where YOU want to go in life.

What is vision? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, vision is “something that you imagine, a picture that you see in your mind.” So, what do YOU see? I hope you see something because if you can’t see it in your mind first, it won’t happen. But, if you have an image burned into your mind, that’s when you’re able to create a vision or tell-YOUR-vision.

So, what is YOUR vision? Do you know? I believe each of us has a vision. Think back to your childhood and elementary school. What did your teacher always ask you? “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Remember that? What did you say? I either wanted to be a police officer, a firefighter or a superhero. That last answer probably made you chuckle, and some of your answers would probably make me laugh. But, even though some of our answers were crazy, we still had VISION! So, what is YOUR vision? I’m not talking about your desire. We all have things we want out of life. For instance, you may have a desire to resign from your current job and work full time for your own company. It sounds great, doesn’t it? However, without a vision (a clear picture in your mind) it’s only a pipe dream! You have to see yourself there first! Think of all the successful people you know. Ask any of them if they saw success in their minds first, and I guarantee they will say that they saw themselves successful before it actually happened.

So, I’ll ask you again, what is YOUR vision? If you say you don’t have one, then why not? What happened? What happened to the little girl who wanted to grow up to become a ballerina? Or how about the boy who wanted to travel in outer space one day? You probably experienced the same thing that this little boy, who wanted to be a superhero, experienced—LIFE! Life can be a blessing, and life can also be a curse! Life will kick you in the shins and even knock you down. Life will convince you that you don’t have what it takes to make it, so you settle for mediocrity! I know because that’s what I did.

For years, I didn’t really try because I allowed life to take away MY vision. I allowed life to change my inner conversation. I allowed life to convince me that I couldn’t do it. Since I didn’t understand the importance of protecting my heart, my mind, my peace, I fell for the okey-doke! And I found myself just existing, living from day to day, from paycheck to paycheck. However, one day that all changed! I finally realized that I had become distracted by someone else’s vision! MY vision was still there, but it was buried underneath a pile of debris! So, what did I do? I pulled up my sleeves, got down on my knees, and dug through all the crap life had thrown at me, until I was able to see my vision again. I then pulled it out, dusted it off and placed it back on the shelf, so I could look at it every day.

Now that I can see clearly again, I HAVE A VISION! In my vision…..

  • I am financialy free!
  • I am able to retire my wife!
  • I have enough money to buy anything I want without worrying about going broke!
  • I own a half million dollar house with five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a three-car garage, a walk-out patio, and a large pool, so my family can come over to swim, eat and enjoy the lap of luxury with me!
  • I am able to share my wealth with my seven children and their children, and to also teach them how to attain their own wealth, so they too can be financially free!

Can you see it? Good! That’s the whole idea! See the vision and believe it will come true!

Although television is a nice leisure activity, don’t let THEIR vision replace YOUR vision.Stop looking at where you have been. Don’t even worry about where you currently are. Instead, look at where you can be, and follow the vision. Don’t detour. Don’t stop to rest. But keep following the path. Continue to pursue YOUR vision, and it will lead you right to your destiny!
